With 'Pretty Khaki', you're never tacky
The Gap's Spring T.V. commercial, "Pretty Khaki", with Sarah Jessica Parker, features music arranged and produced by Marc. In the ad, Sarah sings Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's "I Enjoy Being A Girl". The spot was directed by Peyton Reed (Down With Love). It all started with an exposed breast...
To present the Oscar for "Best Animated Feature Film" at the 77th Academy Awards, actor/comedian Robin Williams went to Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman to whip up a short song which would poke fun at the recent Spongebob Squarepants media fiasco. The song, 26 lines in length, skewered the cartoon denizens of Tinseltown. Unfortunately a nervous TV network nixed the number. Read more at Reuters and The NY Times (registration required).
Welcome to the '60s: 'Hairspray' nets Marc "Best Score" Tony

'Alex & Emma', Marc & Norah
Yes, Marc scored the new romantic comedy Alex & Emma, directed by Rob Reiner. Marc's name does not appear on some posters and ads for the film! Marc says: "the main theme ended up coming from Norah Jones, whose collaborators wrote a lovely song for her, and we used it as the main theme, so its another composed & adapted gig for me". The film is in theaters June 20th.
